Transformation in Dawn's End

I've always enjoyed fairy tales. As a child, beauty and the beast was one of my favourites. The theme of looking deeply into another person, past superficialities, to see what is worthy of love, was the seed for this novel. However, I also flipped the idea. It is just as important to look deeply with ourselves and see what is worthy of love.

Quest fantasy/adventure novels were a passion, being with Tolkien. He understood that the inner journey was just as important as the outer. Transformation, in many forms, is a theme in this novel. I believe we are constantly transforming ourselves, beginning with the enormous changes in adolescence and continuing through the stages of life. Love, in all its forms, is a transformer, bringing out abilities we may have never known we had. Love makes us all beautiful.
